Winchendon went through two different town names: Ipswich, when it was part of Canada’s land, and the petitioned name Epesberry before Winchendon was chosen in 1764. Woodworking and water-powered work helped Winchendon flourish into manufacturing of various wooden items, including toys, which is where Winchendon got the nickname “Toy Town.”

Modern-day Winchendon still relies on those “Yankee ethics” for hard work to get done, and the current residents make sure to keep the town’s rich history alive through maintaining the sturdy, old-fashioned buildings of the past.
