Don’t Throw Your Hearing Aids Away – We Can Fix Them!

by | Apr 7, 2024 | Hearing Aid Repair, Patient Resources

If you’re someone who relies on the help of hearing aids to help you navigate the world around you, you understand how frustrating it can be when your devices stop working as they should.

There are many reasons why your hearing aids may have problems, from earwax buildup to moisture damage. We’re only human, and accidents happen – maybe you’ve dropped your devices, or the dog has gotten ahold of them. No matter the reason your hearing aids aren’t functioning properly, we will do our best to repair them for you quickly. Before you toss your broken devices into the junk drawer, reach out to our team to schedule a repair appointment.

Three Most Common Hearing Aid Repairs

Throughout our years of experience repairing hearing aids for our patients, these are the three issues that we see most often:

Wax Buildup:

While earwax is vital for protecting our ears from dirt and bacteria, it’s not so good for hearing aids. Wax can build up and cause the electronic components of your devices to stop working. You can mitigate this problem by cleaning your devices daily.

Moisture Damage:

Excess moisture and electronic devices don’t mix well. Getting hearing aids wet can cause corrosion. Sometimes, even with the most dedicated care and cleaning routine, moisture will make its way into your devices. Always store your hearing aids in a dry place when you’re not wearing them.

Physical Wear and Tear:

Dropping or stepping on your devices can cause cracks and loose wires. Proper storage can prevent some of these accidents from happening. Keep your devices in their case away from children and pets. Of course, no one’s perfect. Accidents are bound to happen from time to time, but don’t worry – repairing your devices is easier than it sounds!

Should You Repair or Replace Your Hearing Aids?

Repairs can fix small issues and mitigate bigger problems before they get worse. However, in some cases, it may make more sense to replace your devices. If your hearing aids are a few years old and no longer under warranty, replacing them may be the most cost-effective option.

When you stop in for a repair, we will assess the damage and let you know what the best course of action is. We can usually complete the repair in our office, but if we need to send your device out to the manufacturer, we’ll get it back to you as soon as possible.
